The theater is owned and run by Cheryl Sheehy. Her husband, Jerry, also helps with maintenance and operation. We typically play movies 4-6 weeks after they open nation-wide. We occasionally "open" a new movie. We only show G, PG, and PG-13 movies at our theater. The Bijou Movie Theater is a small, independent movie theater located in Mount Vernon, Iowa. We have one screen and seat 100 people. Before every show, Jerry or an employee will introduce the show and announce coming attractions. We also have drawings for various prizes and also encourage our customers to dance or sing prior to accepting their gift. Occasionally, our drawings turn into games such as "Let's make a deal."

Three things make The Bijou the best little theater around: 1) the selection of movies (I appreciate the PG-13 and under rule) 2) the prices (you can't get a night out "on the town" anywhere for the reasonable Bijou prices and 3) the employees and owners (friendly, funny and conscientious). You ROCK Bijou!

This is the way theaters were at one time. Friendly and made you feel as though your time and dollars matter. Jerry begins nearly every show by greeting the audience--making them welcome. A true old-time gem in a gem of a town.
