Listed In: Neighborhood Bar
In 1969 two men started the Deadwood and before the year was out they sold it to Jim Strabala. Mr. Strabala owned the bar for the next 21 years. Soon after Jim?s purchase urban renewal (the construction of the Old Capitol Mall) forced the Deadwood to be moved to a trailer in the street. In 1976 the Deadwood was moved to its current location when a furniture store closed its doors. (The original copper top bar from the first two locations is currently stored in the basement.) In April of 1991 another Jim bought the bar, this time by a Jim Bell. Mr. Bell knew a good thing when he saw it. The Deadwood wasn?t broken and not much needed fixing back in 1991 and that?s why it?s stayed the same since the Deadwood opened its doors at 6th South Dubuque street back in 1976. (With the exception of a few upside down Christmas trees, a dolphin and a little bit of graffiti.) Login or Sign-Up to review this business
