I just happened to be looking at the A-List registries and was appalled to see that Fiesta del Sol was on the Top 5 list. My husband and I used to frequent this establishment, however we had a bad experience and have not returned. It is unfortunate that the general public is unaware of what happened, as I contacted the Gazette and reported it... to no avail.
One of our favorite items at this restaurant was the salsa. We often took salsa and chips to go, and had stopped in one Saturday evening to do just that. The following day, as I was eating the salsa, I thought it tasted funny, but dismissed the idea and continued eating. Soon, something appeared in my bowl that looked quite strange. I ended up pulling out of the salsa container, a large wad of blue bubblegum wrapped in a napkin. I contacted the Health Department and reported it. They took the salsa and made a report. They also checked with the restaurant and discovered that they "recycle" their salsa. In other words, the salsa that remains at your table once you are finished eating, gets dumped back in to the large salsa vat and scooped up again for another table later on. So, anyone that has sneezed, breathed, coughed, or dumped their gum in the salsa on the table has contaminated what you are eating.
The Health Dept (and myself) had a very difficult time getting answers out of the restaurant owners. Everytime we called we got a different answer.... "The owner is in Mexico and I don't know when he will be back." We both made several attempts at stopping in at the restaurant to find a manager or owner. The employees acted like they didn't speak good English and couldn't understand what we were telling them. After a month or so, the Health Dept finally was able to contact an owner and has since visited the restaurant on several occasions and explained to them that recycling their salsa is a health violation.

I agree with many of you, that this was one of our favorite local restaurants, however, I hope that you will think twice before dining there again, or at least ask questions of the staff if you are still willing to eat there.

We love Fiesta! Their food is good, alot like the neighborhood Mexican restaurants we're used to in Chicago. The staff is super friendly, it doesn't matter who your actual waiter is, anyone stops to see if you need something. We've lived in the Cedar Rapids area about 16 years, and this by far has the best food of any other Mexican restaurant in the area, hands down!

Delicious food. Fast service. Quality ingredients. The wait staff is so nice to kids, too. They let me 8 year practice her Spanish on them. A family favorite. Amazing enchilads, tacquitos, and guac!

The service here is so fast it's unbelievable. My favorite meal is the Don Quixote special because of the variety of flavors. Meals are reasonably priced so it's a place to lunch or hang out on a Friday night. I'm even learning a few words in Spanish!

My girlfriend loves this place. Its not bad, and I admit they move freaking fast to get you you're food. A+ for service, B for food quality in my book.

You have never had fajitas, if not experienced the amazing pepper sauce they smother over theirs! Definitly a favorite of my family's when were looking for something a bit spicy!
