MMM...BBQ! Awarded "Best in the Iowa City area for Barbecue" by "Gazette" readers! 2006, 2007
Our pork, brisket, turkey, chicken, and of course, the ribs, are all hickory smoked in house by our Pitmaster Al. All our sides are made from scratch, including our "world famous" honey butter corn bread.
3 people or 300 we've got you covered, because we cater, too!
I had a brother firefighter from Davenport in the U of I Burn Center being treated for burns from an explosion while on the job. I was trying to obtain any discount coupons for the family of the firefighter. Jimmy Jacks did the unbelievable. They delivered 10 meals free of charge to the family at the U of I Hospital.
Their food is outstanding and the staff is always friendly and greets you with a smile. I have had barbaque all over the US and my taste buds pick Jimmy Jacks as the best.
This is by far the best BBQ in the corridor!!!!!! Its worth the drive to have Jimmy Jacks! It's perfect every time I go there! I wish we had this place it Cedar Rapids!
I am from Texas...and I have been to many BBQ places from north to south and east to west as a truck driver.there is a lot of great BBQ out there..but Jimmy Jacks is the BEST here in this area!I love South Carolina style..and Memphis style...and Kansas City style is my favorite outside of Texas..( I wish somebody would do BBQ beef ribs).
The 1st time I went to Jimmy Jack's I had a pork sandwich basket to try it.I was so impressed I bought 60$ worth of ribs and chicken to bring home.
Being a cook who could reproduce anything I wanted at home..BBQ is different. It takes a proper combination to get it right and Jimmy Jack's is the best in the 50 mile area I have found.
P.S.- I do not work for Jimmy Jacks. But i would if I could just to get the employee meal discount..if they have one!
When you first enter Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack, the first thing you notice is the outstanding customer service. The staff will make you feel welcome from beginning to end and once you sink your teeth into the carefully prepared BBQ, you will not want the experience to end - period.
Quality Ribs are hard to keep consistent in any BBQ joint, but I have not had one disappointing rib experience here. Maybe I've just been lucky.
The meats are smoked correctly - meaning you can actually taste the smoke! It is absolutely delicious. The beef brisket and pulled pork are my favorites - a generous serving heaped on a bun. I usually choose their unique tasting fries along with beans and corn bread. The icing on the cake is the sauce on the BBQ. Wow! The Cowboy style is my favorite (smoky flavored).
Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack does it right and you'll leave feeling tight! It would be unfair to say this is the best BBQ joint in Iowa as I have many more to try, but I do recommend you try it for yourself. You'll also appreciate the rustic, cozy interior.
Though the walls are decked out with various old fashioned tools, you'll find nothing needs fixed at Jimmy Jack's.
Food and service are unbeatable. Haven't found anything on the menu that wasn't exceptional in quality and flavor. This is by far the best BBQ in the Midwest in our opinion. The staff is friendly and attentive to insuring that you get the best.
The food is so consistently delicious; the ribs are awesome, and we love the cornbread too. For Valentine's Day I asked my wife where she wanted to go, and she said Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack. GREAT staff too!
The first time we ate at Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack we found the restaurant by a complete fluke. My husband and I were around the corner and just getting out of our car to go into a different restaurant when we literally noticed a new aroma - we acutally followed our nose. We got back in our car, and drove around the corner and found Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack. We absolutely love the food, the prices as very comparable to other restaurants in the area, and the owner and staff are some of the most friendly and attentive people we have ever encounter when dining out. They are the best barbeque Bar None, and they have our vote! No one else even comes close.
Now they just need to open a restaurant in Coralville.
