The Brown Bottle was established in 1972 in Cedar Falls, Iowa by Donald Landau. The Iowa City restaurant opened two years later, with Waterloo following shortly thereafter. North Liberty joined us in 1994, and our most recent addition is Moline, IL (Nov. 2005). The original recipes and sauces were developed by Donnalee Landau. The menu has since been expanded by the four Landau children, who now own and operate the businesses. Over thirty years ago, the quote “Where Good Food, Good Wine and Good Friends Go Together” was included on the first Brown Bottle menu. We still believe in the philosophy and strive to continue the tradition that our parents began. Sit back, relax, and enjoy yourselves!

Consistently good food and service. My husband has been a national officer for his profession and travels much. He would drive out of his way to visit only this restaurant and we do travel a hundred miles to get there.

Food is far from authentic, and just terrible. The chicken parm wasn't even breaded and was very bland. The bruchetta was just diced tomato on garlic cheese bread. The pasta sauce again was extremely bland, and just didn't do anything for us. There just isn't any good Italian in the Iowa City area.

Best Italian food in Iowa City and North Liberty. Consistently excellent for over 25 years. From my wedding rehearsal dinner thru today.
My favorite, the cantaloni.

They have been around forever which is saying a lot when you talk about a restaurant. I remember my husband and I going to the one in Cedar Falls before we were married in 1978. They make you feel so important-the atmosphere is so rich and the food wonderful.

A friend and I ate at the one in Iowa City, unfortunately were not impressed with our food and there were dead flies in the big window sills right next to you while eating.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. I wish that they had one in DSM or close to it!!! No Italian place beats Brown Bottle!

They have the best house dressing (creamy garlic) around. All of their food is terrific. Be sure to ask for extra "crunchies" that serve with their salads- they are awesome.

Always has been excellent for not only Italian cuisine but for great prime rib also. I just wish they would re-open in Cedar Rapids. I, for one, miss having that excellent restraunt in this town. Viva La Bottle!
