Went there 3 days ago with 2 friends.I had ribs-we all agreed were great!not just good!The only complaint...and i have this with most BBQ joints...not enough meat on the ribs!For 19$ a rack should fill up even this big carcus..I also had a brisket sandwich and it was pretty good too..even though I like mine a little less cooked and sliced..I threw some cole slaw on it for a Razorback sandwich and it hit the spot!
The other 2 had the beans and they were split as to as to good or bad.the one who said they were good is the more believable of the two.
Washed it down with some Sam Adams and it was well worth getting up for breakfast for me!
Don't let the place fool you..the food is what you go for and it almost as good as Jimmy Jacks :-)

P.S.-the sauce is pretty tame in spicy...and that is good.the house sauce is rather bland..but then I am a big fan of Texas BBQ.

Some things are an oversight but if you voted for any other BBQ joint in IC and have not had the ribs, coronary, cheese balls, or one of the zany features that the talented chefs make at The Pit then your doing your self a grave injustice in the pursuit of great BBQ and for that matter food in general. Vote The Pit.

Obviously enough people don't know about The Pit, because it is, hands down, the best rib joint around. Ribs, brisket, mushrooms, o rings, etc. Do yourself a favor and give them a try!

Love this place. So glad everything came together and they are making it work. Plus as an added bonus it replaces the eyesore that was once an Amacco station. They made it work for them so well. The food is tremendous. I think I'll go there tonight!

Simply the best barbecue in and around Iowa City. The meat is perfectly smoked and deliciously tender with a tasty choice of sauces and sides. Several specialty items on the menu for those (sadly) not choosing the barbecue. Edgy decor in a great location (with parking) in downtown Iowa City.
