Vortex began serendipitously in 1987 as a mineral and gem business in a 500-sq. ft. space on the north side of Washington Street in Downtown Iowa City. We rapidly began to diversify into jewelry, Native American crafts and unique eclectic gifts. In 1993 Vortex moved to its current location at 211 E. Washington Street with a 2,000 sq. ft. gallery space. We are deeply committed to the support of inner growth through the pathways of individual need. We try to carry products that cannot be found anywhere else in this area. We have expanded sections of Museum Grade Mineral & Fossil Specimens, Designer Jewelry, Aromatherapy; Beautiful diversified gifts for the home and office, Scientific & Educational toys for kids of all ages.
