Twenty-four years ago Zio Johno, which means "Uncle" in Italian, came to the United States with an idea in his mind: a zio style restaurant. He started working non-stop 12 to 14 hours a day, six days a week, and he saved every penny he could. In 1984, Joh ... show moreno arrived in Cedar Rapids with his savings and invested it in a restaurant, Zio Johno's Spaghetti House, across the street from Coe College. Business was slow at first, but as word got around, his restaurant began to thrive. A few years later a second restaurant on First Avenue, a third on Edgewood road to today, eight restaurants; Cedar Rapids, Marion, Iowa City, Waterloo, Cedar Falls. At Zio Johno's, the shelves are lined with containers filled with spices without labels. The secret to his success is downstairs, where he mixes the spices and makes the dough for his bread. The bread, sauce, and pasta are made fresh daily.

The food at the Zio Johno's in Cedar Rapids is awesome, however, the one here in Iowa City is awful. Need Johno to come to Iowa City and whip the Iowa City restaurant into shape pronto. Since I moved to Iowa City I kept trying the one up here thinking maybe it was just bad that particular day but it's been bad every time. I miss the good food from the CR Zio Johno's.

Portion volume per price is unbeatable, the Marion restaurant offers a wonderful atmosphere with a menu of tasty items which improves on their carryout locations, their garlic bread is absolutely delicious.

Zio's is by far the best restaurant in the area!! Excellent food, excellent customer service, excellent prices.....you can't get better Italian food anywhere else!!!

You won't find a better deal for wonderful authentic Itialian food. You literally can get 3 meals here for the price of 1 at any other Italian Restaurant listed here, and it is just as good. Don't feel like going out?? Just get it delivered.

One of the best values in a full service restaurant you'll find anywhere. I love the meatball sandwich - four huge meatballs & sauce, a slab of mozzarella then oven toasted on that great bread they make here. Sweet!
